USB-C Wattage
USB-C Wall Charger WattageDevices
18–27W Smartphones, cameras, drones
27–45W Medium-sized tablets and ultrabooks
45–100W High-performance laptops and external monitors
To support devices such as large laptops and monitors, the wall charger needs to be paired with a USB-C cable rated at 5A to enable charging at 100 watts. Using a standard 3A cable, by comparison, cannot go beyond 60 watts of charging.
Chargers with lower wattage outputs can still charge higher-wattage devices, although it will take longer to fully charge the device.
USB C chargers have established themselves as the go-to choice for today’s electronic devices, offering a one-size-fits-all, efficient, and user-friendly solution for energy delivery and connectivity. With a small, dual-sided design, USB C solves the issue of one-way connectors and supports high-speed power delivery and higher data speeds compared to older USB types. Its widespread implementation across smartphones, tablets, laptops, and accessories cuts down on the number of multiple chargers, making it easier for users to charge and sync various devices with a single cable. This growing standardization also contributes to sustainability efforts by cutting down on electronic waste and streamlining tech connections.
